Why do most oil threads start with "My new Yamasuki (or my old Humbley Pudge) calls for Bigoil 17w44 synthetic. My local CheapArse chain store just up t'road doesn't carry it. What must I use instead?"
In this 21st century, why would anyone ask such a question? Even here in my village, where the nearest auto store is 10 miles away and I have no cell phone service, I can make a few clicks on my computer, and within 2 days a quick, busy man in brown shorts will HAND ME my favorite oil AT MY DOOR! I don't have to go anywhere, I can get a cheap price, and I can use the EXACT oil I want with no compromises.
Are people really so absent minded that they never know until 30 minutes before they need it that they need some oil? I use 10W60 synthetic, 20W50 mineral, 10W30 mineral, and 5W30 mineral. I have gallons of each on my shelf, all shipped right to me for WAY cheaper than the local Pep Boys or AutoZone sells it.
Why on earth would I use 10W40 in a $12,000 bike that calls for 10W60 just because my local discount store doesn't carry it? It just doesn't make sense, but it seems to be a world-wide disease ....
