Even better, I occasionally give a mate a lift home. He's the only passenger so far to enjoy squealing tyres on corners. My family tell me off for it!
Timewise there is no difference, especially once you factor in changing. In terms of stress and comfort the car wins every time.
Shock horror... although I loved taking the R100R to Wales last weekend, I nearly took the MX5 but didn't because, as I told my wife, it would have meant the end of long distance riding. It's just too much fun and too convenient. Driving in shorts, not having to sweat when you get somewhere. Being able to store stuff in the boot is great. Try swimming or Parkrun on a motorcycle and you soon discover panniers aren't big enough. I long ago stopped bothering about public changing of clothes but where would I keep my jacket, trousers and lid?
Bikes for fun, bike touring, bike camping. Car for all else, or bicycle for traffic free cycling - sadly my 15 mile each way commute ends with the start of a new job this September. I can't explain just how much it has been the highlight of my current job!!!
