One job I had gave me access to demo Vauxhalls - a Lotus Carlton was my favourite, but rather than let it be used, as Vauxhall wanted, my employer wanted it on display outside the front door. Other staff were scared of it & were jealous of my using it.
In protest, I bought a sick Minivan for £113, fixed it up & clocked up the 40mpg miles at 24p/mile. 6 or 7 years later when I sold it for £130, I'd done over 50k work miles, all the time refusing the occasional offer of a pool Astra for work trips. I also charged them the extra premium for business use. Nice little earner.
