Its a long winded job this time. First time i have paid to have any building trades work done and if i was 50 again, i would be up slating it out. I was up on a scaling ladder a few months ago replacing some slipping slates and it is obvious the nails have rotted after just 90 years by the sea. I blame the 1927 building quality using cheap nails. They are actually very thick galv nails and very hard to snap off with a slate ripper when fitting a replacement slate. I have noticed that all the houses have had cement slates fitted over the last 35 years and some of them are being replaced again. One in the road has had a roof replaced again after just 10 years.
