There seems to be an increase in the re-enactment of the past with 'Villages at War'. Is it nostalgia for a better time of community spirit; the ongoing recognition of bravery and fears of what now are past generations; or something else? I personally do not find it entertaining, but a little bit sad when folk impersonate characters from history - it's fake, not that I would wish such things ever to become real again, but there's something misguided about it I can't put a finger on.
I see the Great Dorset Steam Fair has been for the last four years, been presenting displays of first World War vehicles in a sort of pageant, but this year will be the last. Let us not forget the sacrifices made by those involved, but none who engage in such re-enactments could ever have experienced those times, and if they had - would they want to relive the theatre?
