I have a base gasket leak but leaving it until the New year. keeps the rust away from the lower frame as it trickles around. Good modification for Winter riding. Push rod tubes are getting very hard to seal these days for some reason. Maybe the oil is slippier and just gets by despite new rubbers.
Last time i did the job was about years ago and changed the piston rings.
Of course, the BSA never has any cylinder base/pushrod leaks.
Oil leaks ensure continuous oil changes as you ride and not a bad thing unless you are on a bike behind the leaker.
