Don't turn up when they say they will. Arrive half way through the day, or at 5pm and work for 45mins. Can't finish the job as he's left his caulking gun in another van. Glues skirting on which falls off during the night (got a dirty look when I suggested screws). Eventually uses screws, but mushroom headed which are left proud of the skirting face(?!?). Sticks an external vent weather shield on with silicone, the shield having pre-drilled holes for screw fixings which I helpfully pointed out (more dirty looks and eye rolling). Job quoted as lasting for eight days now in sixth week.
Many phone calls to company bosses results in promises - unfulfilled. Tomorrow might just be the completion of job. I await with baited breath.
Glad I'm not the one footing the bill (tenants).
Jobsworths who expect ludicrous measures to be taken in the name of 'regulations', even if the house has been standing for over two hundred years (which it has): - "your open fireplace must have a vent in the wall". But the chimney's capped, has been for sixty years. "Doesn't matter, some future tenant may wish to uncap it and light a fire. Or you might consider removing that grate and boarding the fireplace up". No pal, that's Georgian and is staying put. Close the door on the way out.
The totally unnecessary vents which are introducing cold draughts into three rooms, negating the new internal insulating boards costing the landlord thousands, will be stuffed after he leaves. Will we die from CO poisoning? No-one has this past 100 plus years, no - not a chance.
Coming soon - one for using toilet paper after a dump.
Why do old folk get grumpy? 'Cos they get flooded with all this crap which they have lived through without the present stupidity, by using commonsense - which if I could can or bottle would make me a multi billionaire almost overnight. Well, if they're daft enough to buy cans of London Smog . . .
