When compared with the price of going to a football match, a music concert, theatre etc. these days the charge for the show is not unreasonable. If Geoff took his grandkids to a pop concert he would be paying a lot more believe me!
The main reason the bike show has dwindled is because the authorities are so belligerent with exhibitors setting up and taking down re the parking at the door etc. and the organisers seem powerless to do anything about that. Local bike clubs like John's are reluctant to put themselves through the hassle and you cant blame them.
I enjoy certain sections of the car show such as the Metro/Allegro/Cortina clubs i.e the more down to earth, genuine enthusiasts rather than the posher stuff, but you are right, the crush makes it tough.
Back to the Bike Show, that rarely gets packed out so makes for a quite relaxing interlude if visiting both. As such a lot of car enthusiasts drift in there and see what our hobby is all about which is good.
Hats off the the clubs that do put in the effort to set up and display as its a good showcase for all of us.
