>hope for the future?
Hard to get a wide view if you're only seeing snapshots of a country-wide organisation.
Week ago last Friday, one of the OH's employees had an accident at work, bashed his head on the concrete floor. Unconscious, lots of blood, by the time I got there, there were a first responder, three ambulances, two police vans and the paramedic helicopter had just left with employee because neuro trauma is handled in Aberdeen (two hours away by road).
Soon as they got the employee to Aberdeen, he was scanned all over. Luckily turned out the blood was from just a cut in his scalp (stapled up), no skull fracture, haematoma, etc. Nevertheless, they kept him in for a week, as well as the brain scans, they also checked his heart to make sure a heart attack hadn't been behind his accident.
I haven't had to use A&E for a couple of years. Last time I had to, it was severe pain just under my ribs on the right-hand side, no "blue light", swmbo took me there. As when I've been to Inverness A&E before, I was in and hitched up to what looked like a Gold Wing wiring harness within fifteen minutes of arriving. Blood was taken, I had an abdominal scan, beeping machines were watched for about an hour before they worked out the pain was a gall-stone passing and I was unplugged and allowed to leave, with an appointment to see the surgeon the following day.
Hth.
