Last week, the Council gave instructions to repair the damaged wall from the last storm so dug underneath it to put in concrete. The mistake they made is not building a temporary wall while carrying out the work. It is now going to be a longer job as last night the wall went down into the sea so no wall to prop up now.
The new sea defence system was tested and i noticed all the drain covers became blocked by pieces of wood and plants carried down the River Exe. Totally blocked so the sea water began to run along the road on its way to Town. It partially worked as some water did get sent back to sea.
The old tower on the seafront has lost its protective wall now but that assists the council as they want to demolish this tower and cafe. Now they will be able to say it is dangerous.
Fascinating to sea the sea going over the carpark and into the garaging of the million pound pier apartments where the supercars park. They also had a high wall built to stop sea water. The problem is, they did not raise the height of the large pier so it just went a different route.
When they were surveying the wall repairs, a man was looking around and i asked if he knew anything about this listed Smeatons wall. He said he is not local and has to guess how it was built. He declined the offer of photos i have from when it was built showing the materials used behind it. I expect he claimed a few thousand pounds for his expert opinion. Quite funny as i have many of the original building plans of the dock area but no one ever asks to see them. When i offer these plans, i get no response at all and even the Museum declines an offer of parts of the massive photo collection
