Bikes Purchased in 2017 (5)

This is the 1951 Triumph Thunderbird basket case. |
UK registration very evident.
As far as I can make out there is nothing missing (everything was carefully wrapped in newspaper--the Daily Mail of 2012!
There are also 4 spare barrels and four spare iron heads as well as a spare gearbox and other parts.
Now to the third coincidence.
I received with the bikes a whole bundle of paperwork related to them including all the shipping documents from UK to US etc.
A couple of nights later I sat down and went through all the paperwork.
Including in it was the original buff UK logbook for the Thunderbird.
It showed that Michael Holt was the second owner having bought the bike in 1953.
However the logbook also showed the supplying dealer as Pitchers Garages of Rugby Warwickshire.
Now I lived in Rugby aned the surrounding area from the age of 10 until I moved to US at the age of %%.
As a teenager in my formative motorcycling years Pitchers was the dealer where I used to go on Saturday mornings and press my nose to the showroom window.
And a further coincidence--having graduated my first job was as a development engineer at the Associated Engineering Group R&D Centre just outside Rugby.
And one of my work colleagues was Gordon Pitcher--son of the owner of the motorcycle dealership!
So---those links back to my beginnings and I buiy the bike in Virginia in USA!
As one of my friends said "Destiny brought you and that bike together"
Hope that I have not bored you with the tales of my bike purchases in 2017.
