Dave, it is indeed an SU. Thankfully so ancient it has a capacitor rather than diode or whatever the later one had.So, when I reversed the polarity one day I caused no damage. |
It's a '59 Rover 100. He restored it over twenty or so years of his thirty five or so year ownership. He was lucky enough to have access to a very large number of very highly qualified engineers in his job, and a large site with full garage facilities. Then he enrolled at the local tech on a car restoration course, again with full facilities. He took it caravanning with a number of Cheltenham and other classic vans, and enjoyed plenty of home made wine in the process! When mum died he changed his life quite a lot and as he has aged is no longer strong enough or enthusiastic enough to drive it. I'm torn between taking it on or not. It's a hard one: I'm not a huge car fan, can't weld or spray ( though he taught himself these skills so I expect I could) and can't really see a use for it. On the other hand it's not known as the poor man's Rolls for nothing. It is gorgeous!
A difficult dilemma, really. As I nearly ditched bikes last year, and haven't ridden my new ones at all, I'm wondering whether a change of hobby would be a good move. It's a big commitment though.
