I had an import N model, naked bike, think it was an S reg. I'd say they are well built on the whole but do watch the join between the headers and the silencer. Mine rotted through and I got my local welder to insert a new piece of tube the right size to fit inside the collector collar and the inlet of the silencer and clamped the whole lot together with a wide stainless tube clamp (44mm if I recall,) which made a very good job. Check the fixings into the head as well, if they are rotted or chewed off this will be hard to fix. The other possible area to check are the monoshock suspension bearings, these sit right behind the gearbox and in front of the rear wheel and don't have any sort of sensible shielding on them. If they are worn you will need umpteen needle roller bearings and bushes and every single one is a poxy Suzuki special (ie, near to standard but 0.5mm smaller or larger) so you have to buy them from a Dealer. Suzuki Spares GB get my vote, good service. And they are a pig to get out as well! Apart from that I loved it, a real hoot and not bad as a middle distance machine either although if you do a lot of M way work consider a smallish headlight fairing which helps keep the wind off your chest. |
