I can no longer read a book in my bedroom until I replace the light fittings. The amateur theatre group I am involved in has bought a stock of incandescent bulbs for our lamps, but they won't last long. LED are expensive and (being electronic) much less reliable, especially in temporary set-ups for different shows. They have their uses and we use them, but they are no substitute for the subtleties of incandescent lamps. For professional theatre (and especially for smaller groups) the situation is an approaching disaster. |
And who knows what the load factor effects will be in London's West End when all the theatres distort the wave form even more than they do now?
Allegedly even the Hollywood film industry will be in big trouble because the lamps are all made in Germany, and if the mass production of domestic bulbs ceases, they won't be able to make specialist products (and might not be allowed to).
Not to worry! The Chinese will no doubt step in.
Maybe we'll change to 12 volts and use car headlights at home? But how long before we are unable to buy new bulbs for old bikes and cars?
