Thirty odd years ago, I rode my 250 Superdream to my girlfriend's house in the country one evening. |
Before I went in I decided to put my waterproof trousers under the seat as I felt they spoiled the lines of my fine machine (yes, I know but it was my first 'proper' bike). In 3 months of ownership I'd always bungied them to the seat until that night.
Went inside, after a long evening it transpired she had been seeing a ginger man who owned a CBX550! And so it all ended.
I left about midnight, very upset, roared off (as best as possible on a Superdream) into the first corner, far too fast.
Rather than leave the road and hit a tree the bike actually died. It restarted and I limped home, furious that even the bike was against me.
About 2am, after being unable to sleep, it dawned on me that the waterproof trousers had been sucked into the air box and stopped my mad entrance speed to that lonely, country corner.
I still shiver a bit when I consider that moment!
