A close game saw our reserves suffer a 2-1 defeat.Again , a spirited performance against a far more experienced side nearly ended in a draw , as a castiron penalty claim was turned down.Starting slowly , and allowing chorley too much ball early on , saw us go 2-0 down within 25 minutes.Defenders were,nt marking tight enough and allowed the lively number 10 for Chorley to get between the defenders and cause havoc and an injury to goalkeeper Lee meant we were exposed through the middle and to a far post header .We gave the ball away cheaply and were looking for killer passes and down the channel instead of getting on the ball and passing it around , retaining possession and being patient and working for openings upfront. An odd glimpse of what Coar and Gorton can do , some neat football from hickling , tinker and gidlow without really threatening , fullbacks clark and duxbury getting into the game and ennifer and abbott marking tighter , with captain Shaun davies getting on the ball saw us finish the half the stronger of the two teams.Second half saw a change in formation , and we started getting more ball.Sam dean came on for Alan coar up front and immediately made a difference , playing on the shoulder of the back man, and we started creating more chances .Terry and Darren Fothergill were introduced and settled into the game , creating several chances with balls in from the right.Shaun Davies moved into central midfield , where his competetive approach , along with the tireless Liam Gidlow saw us get on top of Chorley , who were glad to hang on for the win.Neat passing football , followed by one of many attacking runs by Liam Gidlow , saw his shot beat the keeper to be finished by the predatory Sam Dean.Defensively , we by now were coping with the odd skirmish by chorley , with Jamie Ennifer outstanding at the back .Undoubtedly , another learning experience for the management team and the players , as the lads are realising what it takes at this level. Our performance in the last ten minutes of the first half and the whole of the second half was the best so far, as our ball retention , movement from midfield and simple passing saw us out perform an established Lancashire league side .Players player of the match was close , with Sam Dean , Shaun Davies,Liam Gidlow, Gary Hickling having great games but Winner was Jamie Ennifer , following the previous two winners Alan Coar and Lee Pickup.Well done lads ,we are exceeding expectations with our early performances.
