The team battled all the way but were constantly frustrated by the decisions of the ref who punished Clitheroe players for things that Goole players got away with. I'm sure there'll be more said about this ref!

Clitheroe made an uncharacteristic dream start when they took the lead after just 3 minutes through Gary Jackson. A mix up at the back saw Goole equalise and then came the turning point of the match. The ref spotted a slight tug by Ryan Parr but the Goole number 8's dramatic fall to the floor led to a penalty being awarded and Ryan Parr being sent off. These tussles happen at matches every week but the player going to ground left the ref with no option as Ryan Parr was the last man. It was a harsh decision and it can be argued that "according to the rules" the ref was only doing his job. However, he failed to be consistent from thereon in. Goole slotted the penalty home to take a 2-1 interval lead.
