Ya I have done this.
Just carefully choose which stitch you cut... on the end of a row. The ONE row will be real hard to un do.. but you can literally cut through the middle of it ( lengthwise) and then just re-finish off the ends and knot it off. Then you can go around the afghan in a diff color or something to make it look nice and finished. Crochet knots are VERY hard to get out, going backwards. I mean.. if you pull it out it comes out, but if you try to pull it out from the beginning row its very hard. So even if you screw up, worst case is that you loose ONE row that you shouldn't have*S*
