Mauritian Cuisine: Gram Grille

After another wonderful holiday in Mauritius I'd now like to roast gram the way they do it on the roadside. I've tried it by simply roasting (soaked) dried chickpeas, but obviously got it wrong. Any advice on how to do it correctly please?
