Those Dam Bulldogs "Just Like Lays"[You Just Cant Own "One"]
Posted by Mike @ DragonSlayer on 7/20/2006, 11:38 pm * About Tonka and Big Pun being on my site: * About "The Name Change": *Side Note on "The Name Change": * About This Board: * Final Thoughts Now, here is MY CHALLENGE to everyone viewing. I challenge every one of you. Young and old. Novice and "old-timer". Look through my website. Comb through it. Read every word, and look at every picture. Don't go by what your buddy said on the subject, search your own heart. Then judge DragonSlayer Kennels for yourself. Is there anything illegal, immoral, degrading, unethical, or wrong with any of it? Point out the lies, if there be any. Go public with what you see wrong. I challenge you: make a list. #1, #2, etc. Compile it. Number the items. Be intelligent and thorough. And give me (and the rest of our audience) an intelligent essay of why the areas that you mention are wrong, and what should the solution be. And you need to justify these solutions better than "because I think so" or "it just Saint right". Give me facts, just as I have given you the facts. I have not lied, or misrepresented in anyway, as my accusers say that I have. So I ask that you give me the same in return. I remind you to be an adult about it, as I will not participate in slamming, childish Internet brawls. And stay on topic. This is not an "I hate Mike" series. STAY ON TOPIC. This can be a very educational exercise for all of us. I look forward to your response(s). Mike @ DragonSlayer

Hello everyone, I rarely make this large of a post. And please do not come to expect it. I have heard murmurings and rumors about me being this and DragonSlayer Kennels being that. And I certainly want to clear the air. There is always 3 sides to every story: his side, their side, and then finally the REAL TRUTH. I realize going into this that there will be some that will agree with me, and some that don't. I do not try to influence anyone, I offer my opinions and experience to all, and some take it, and some don't. That is America. And we all have our convictions. And we all live with them. I sleep well knowing that what I am doing with these dogs is the very best that I know, and many well-respected people that actually own and have seen my dogs in person agree. I try to keep it about the dogs, as many say that they do. But people can complicate things in ways that dogs do not, or even care to.
But back to the topic, mainly in reference to ethics as a breeder. I will try to answer everyone's questions and concerns in a professional manner, as they arise. I am, however busy, and do not spend endless hours on the Internet trying to win favor of the masses. So my answers may not be for a day or so. Please be polite and courteous, and if you are unable to manage that, then don't expect me to reply. I repeat, if you cant be polite and courteous, then don't be surprised when you don't hear back from me. I do not stoop to that level. I am a father, husband, and gentleman before a dogman. And my time is better spent elsewhere. But I do have a true desire to enlighten those that care, with an open mind. Below are some of my immediate thoughts on various issues that seem to be prevailing, should be educational for many:
* About Ben @ Velocity:
We were once very close (or so I thought) shared dreams, visions, breeding goals, etc. Then distrust and deception crept into the relationship, and we parted ways. Not pretty, and I regret it to this day. So please know that there is some bad blood between us. I had a bad feeling about it, I really admired and trusted Ben. To make a long story short, neither of us got burnt by dogs or money, as is often the case. Just a broken friendship. But there is a dislike that is still there I feel. I have buried the hatchet, but periodically get feedback that Ben is "stirring the pot" and causing confusion and drama. That is a given in this business, so I chose to ignore it. Now, it has gone public, and I can no longer ignore it. I truly admire Ben @ Velocity. Other than my dogs, and a few of my closest friend's dogs, I like his. And he has done things with his boy Tonka that 90% of the "Bulldogge Breeders" haven't seemed to accomplish with an entire "kennel". So there is respect and admiration from me towards him. And truthfully, still disappointed that our relationship has come to this.
I acquired Jamie 8 months ago from James Davis. Jamie is not the perfect dog in my mind. However, what she produces, when bred to the right males, is just what I want. So I have spent very big $$ to acquire her. And I am going to produce Tonka and Big Pun type dogs from her. And I am proud to have her. And I am proud of what my girl produced. And I WILL show off what she has done. It should not be kept a secret. She has thrown such nice dogs. That is what my website illustrates. What my girl has done. This is very common practice in the dog world. There is nothing illegal, immoral, or unethical about showing what your female has produced, whether it was with another breeder, male, or what have you. So that is why Tonka and Big Pun, and Stiner are under my girl Jamie on my dams page. And that is exactly how it is worded. No more, no less, than to show off what I have, and what she is capable of. That simple. And as I said, very commonplace in the dog world.
I payed big bucks for Jamie. She is in my possession, my property. I repeat, I bought the dog. Payed dearly. Payed honestly. More than most of you have paid for 4 dogs. I took a loan out to buy this dog. Like you would do a house, car, or whatever. So she is in my world now. And she is on DragonSlayer soil. And the registries that I use allow the name to be changed, and practice it. And it is not illegal. And it seems that the only people that are offended are the people that don't have the caliber of dogs that I do. Could be wrong, but sometimes it sucks at the top. That doesn't mean much to you, as it wasn't your hard earned dollar. But I have never cut corners in my program. That is how I have very sought-after dogs. And that is how I charge the prices for them that I do. They are different from the rest. Many people like a Ford Tempo. I don't have a problem with it. That is your choice. My customers prefer a Mercedes Benz. So, when I make a few for myself, others benefit as well. And I get MANY compliments, and really love it when I do. It makes the hard work worth it. Many of you understand where I am coming from, and many don't. I am accountable to my registries, my friends and loved ones, and my customers. Not my competition. So sorry guys. When I buy a dog, I buy the whole 9 yards. Unless otherwise agreed upon. And I did not violate any agreement. So unless you had input on the sale, and were there, this is pretty much between buyer and seller. There are no lies here, and what I did was perfectly within the guidelines of the law, and registry.
Greg Hermes produced Jamie. Not James Davis. So, when James had her, she was Davis' Jamie. That is because he owned her. I am cool with that. I do not have a problem with that. I like James, and thank him for selling me such a special girl. So, for those of you that say I was wrong, what should she be called : Hermes Jamie? Davis Jamie? Hermes' Davis' Jamie of DragonSlayer? The list could go on. Everybody has their opinions. MOST are biased. And I am not owned by anyone except my Lord Jesus Christ. So you see, the people that I am accountable to in this situation are my registries. What I did was within their guidelines. Can we all accept that as reality?
I think that this is a great board. And I thank you for the opportunity for all of us to post here. There are many thought provoking topics, and although I don't agree with all of the answers, if it causes you to question your activity and motives, then it is good for the soul.
I may have missed some concerns and questions here. I certainly didn't mean to, and if you feel that I did, please bring them up now.
Respectfully,
"Life is too short to have weak bulldogs."
