In the good old days of 1978 when I was 18 my favourite pub was located about 7 miles from my home & I went there 2-3 times a week. It was the legendary Knights Arms in Porthcawl. It was a rockers & bikers pub. On the jukebox there was songs that live with me to this very day. My 10 pences in those days would be spent on Led Zeppelin Trampled underfoot/Black Country Woman, Blue Oyster Cult- Dont fear the Reaper, Hawkwind Silver Machine & many more. like every jukebox & every pub there were the anthems and 2 songs got overplayed here ass such. Scott McKenzies If your going to San francisco & the absolute diamond for me was a singer called Buffy Sainte-Marie singing "Sweet America". The song & many more of Buffys really made an impression on me. i bought many albums & i still hope to see her play live albeit a trip to America or Canada that i cant really afford. Anyway here is a link to her singing on You Tube. Look at other tracks by her on UYou Tube also. I would like to know Debbie if you have heard of Buffy ? What you think of the song "Sweet America" and although its very different in style from what your band play your comments on how well it could suit you even if you never ever try it ? Thanks Deb in anticipation !!

Buffy Sainte Marie was born in Saskatchewan Canada on an Indian Reservation, orphaned as a child she grew up in America with its prejudice to her native Indian roots. Her music was banned in the USA appearing on the White House list of music that should be surpressed. Donovan would know about her as he sang her song "Universal Soldier" (Very well I may add) and also she wrote the song "Up where we belong" which was a hit for joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes.
So Debbie you may find a real soft spot for the song Sweet America in your set just for a change in direction. Imagine the scene , A native Indian growing up in her adopted country of USA finding herself attracting Govt attention that surpresses her progress, she decides its time to leave for Canada her original birthplace & produces the beutiful ballad of "Sweet America" as her parting shot. It does not get any better for me
Here is the opening lyrics to the late seventies song "Sweet America";-
Well I think it's time I'm leaving Oklahoma
There's 49 more ways to live my life
America you showed that I don't know you
and I do believe your worth another try
