The Millennium Upland Slow Pitch League will begin play in its inaugural season on Tuesday, April 15th under the lights at the Furey Road Fields in Upper Chichester and at the newly renovated Upland Park (Bris Lord Memorial Field) which has recently installed a 35 foot net around the entire outfield that has increased the field dimensions to nearly 300 feet.
When the Upland A.C. team takes the field at Upland Park and Barnaby's of Aston UBBIBC does the same at Furey Road it will mark the beginning of a concept I have wanted to try over the last couple of years.
The concept that Delco softball may be ready for is a hybrid league.
This type of league would offer teams the opportunity to play their choice of either doubleheaders or single games twice weekly and at the same time keep league fees far below that of leagues that play only doubleheaders under the lights.
I will have information available for teams that may have an interest in obtaining permits for doubleheaders at the Furey Road Fields at the MUSPL meeting this Thursday.
The fields at Furey Road are well maintained and because of that are in high demand, so getting a chance to play on these fields doesn't happen that often.
The over 60 teams who make up the Millennium Upland and Millennium Sunday Softball Leagues appreciates the cooperation we have received from the Upper Chichester Township Recreation Department in securing these fields and look forward to helping with any of the fundraising events they may have in the future, for the fields at Furey Road.
