Class-C Major:
Lefty’s Irish Pub, Marcus Hook

Nicky Big’s (Benny’s), Springfield
Sun Village Sports Club, Marcus Hook
PS- Bennys did not win 2 games in the Area states last year, but did so the year before, but i think they want to play "D".
Remember, all teams have the right to appeal.
These are the only District-6 teams bound by the state classifications. Every single other team will be classified by the District-6 Classification Committee.
*Notes
1. At any time during the season, the commissioner reserves the right to move a team up or down as he sees fit.
2. Any team classified as "E" may choose to play Class-D. Remember Class-E is just an "in-state" classification to give teams that normally don't try to play advanced play a chance to play in a state championship or for any team that plays in a "Rec" league or division. Joe O. will discuss with each team their options.
As far as the rest of the teams in District-6 go, they will be handled on a case by case basis as the quaifiers get closer. Joe O. will make that decision along with recommendations from each league commissioner and the State Classification Chairman. The Basic Classification rules are stated below.
CLASS-C Basic Rules:
1. Class-C divided up into two separate levels to promote a more competitive state championship. Both State Championships will be held in York (July 19-20) and both will use the ASA Class-C National Code Rules.
2. Top-8 Class-C Major teams are guaranteed a Class-C National berth. All Class-C Major teams are eligible to advance to National Championship play should more berths become available. Only the winner of the Class-C States is guaranteed a Class-C National berth.
3. There will be six (6) Class-C National Qualifiers and one (1) Central Atlantic Regional National Qualifier scheduled. All Class-C Major and Class-C teams may enter National Qualifiers, if a Class-C team wins, they will have to play Class-C Major States. All teams winning a National Qualifier MUST play in the Class-C Major States to validate their national berth.
4. All Class-C teams that are registered with ASA in an ASA sanctioned league may enter the Class-C states. You do NOT have to enter a qualifer to be eligible for state championship play. But, you must go through your District Commissioner to gain admittance into the States. No exceptions.
5. All ASA of PA advanced play rosters MUST be turned into your District Commissioner by June 1st. The Slow Pitch Committee will review all the rosters to check validity of all the teams and ensure the teams are classified properly. If your teams name does not appear on the list for Class-C teams, you will be forced to play Class-C Major. So, please submit your rosters so we have no problems.
6. If, at any time during the season, a Class-C team looks much stronger than first thought, the District Commissioner can recommend to the Slow Pitch Committee that this team be moved up to Class-C Major. The same goes with Class-C Major. If any team at this level starts dominating it’s local area and also starts winning large tournaments with ease, then the District Commissioner can recommend to the Slow Pitch Committee that this team be moved up to Class-B.
CLASS-D Basic Rules:
1. Class-D divided up into two separate Areas (Eastern to be held in Drifton and Western to be held in Meadvillle). Both Area State Championships will be held on July 19-20 and will use the ASA Class-D National Code Rules.
2. Class-D State Finals will be held in Drifton (August 9-10). The top-8 teams from the Eastern and Western Area States will qualify for the State finals along with the 16 Class-D District Champions and the Memorial Weekend York Central Atlantic National Regional Qualifier Winner. If an out of state team wins, then the highest finishing Pennsylvania team will qualify as the 33rd team in Class-D state finals.
3. There will be six (6) Class-D National Qualifiers and one (1) Central Atlantic Regional National Qualifier scheduled. All Class-D teams may enter National Qualifiers. All teams winning a national Qualifier MUST play in one of the Class-D Area States to validate their national berth. (Note, as mentioned earlier, the memorial weekend winner goes directly to the state finals)
4. All Class-D teams that are registered with ASA in an ASA sanctioned league are eligible to compete in advanced play. You must go through your District Commissioner and play in your District Qualifier or be named the District Champion by your commissioner should no qualifier be played. District Champs will get a berth directly to the state finals and all other teams qualifying through their districts will be sent either to the Eastern or Western Area State Tournaments where you have to finish in the top-8 to qualify for the state finals. No exceptions.
5. All ASA of PA advanced play rosters MUST be turned into your District Commissioner by June 1st. The Slow Pitch Committee will review all the rosters to check validity of all the teams and ensure the teams are classified properly. So, please submit your rosters so we have no problems.
6. All teams listed here in the Class-D listing are teams that have competed in the Class-D ASA advanced play over the past couple years (2006 and 2007) and proved that they can compete and be competitive at the Class-D level. These teams listed are the only Class-D teams that can appeal to the State Classification Committee if they feel strongly enough they can not compete at the Class-D State level. All other teams will be classified within their own district with recommendations of the District Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and the League commissioner. If any “problems” arise, The Slow Pitch Committee will step in and settle the dispute by investigating further in the matter. Remember, we must all work together for the sake of the teams and be fair as possible.
CLASS-E Basic Rules:
1. Class-E divided up into two separate State Championships (Eastern to be held in Drifton and Western to be held in New Castle). Both Area State Championships will be held on July 19-20 and will use the ASA Class-D National Code Rules, unless changed at this year’s Area and State meetings to try more inovative ideas to entice these teams to engage in ASA advanced play with the state.
2. There will be no State Finals, Since this is an experimental year for Class-E, two State Champs will be crowned, (East and West)
3. There will be no National Qualifiers as there is no Class-E on a National level, so Class-E has no advancement past the States.
4. All Class-E teams that are registered with ASA in an ASA sanctioned league are eligible to compete in state championship play. You must go through your District Commissioner to gain entrance and be approved by the Slow Pitch Committee to play Class-E. No exceptions. Your team as well as the league you play in will be closely looked at and it will take the job of the Slow Pitch Committee, the District Commissioner, the Area Deputy Commissioner and even the League Commissioner to make sure all are in agreement with the Class-E label applied to your team.
5. All ASA of PA advanced play rosters MUST be turned into your District Commissioner by June 1st (*Class-E may be earlier to approved). The Slow Pitch Committee will review all the rosters to check validity of all the teams and ensure the teams are classified properly. So, please submit your rosters so we have no problems.
6. There is no team listing statewide for Class-E as the Class-D teams are listed above depending on how they have fared over the past two (2) years in league and advanced play. Any other team not listed will be up to both the commissioner and/or the Slow Pitch Committee to be determined what classifications they fall in to, either Class-D or Class-E. As mentioned above, this chain of command will even filter down all the way to the actual League Commissioner for clarification of need be.
7. A Class-E team can be moved up at any time by the District Commissioner and/or the slow pitch committee depending on how they do during the 2008 season.
* Note, Any team classified by Joe O. as Class-E will be approved as I am the Classification Chairman and also the Slow Pitch State Commissioner who heads the State Slow Pitch Committee, so whatever Joe says is fine by me as he knows you guys better that I do. He will be more then fair, trust me. I would bet that most of the teams in Delco will be "E" with some "D" scattered here and there. As far as Chester County goes, I have no clue. That is why league commissioners and deputies are important to offer suggestions to help make things accurate.
Thanks, Steve
if you have any questions, please don't ask, lol
I am not going to have a problem with Montgomery county (Sully), Delaware/Chester County (Joe O) or Bucks County (Jeff Sell), because I trust these guys and have played and seen a lot of these teams. As I said, if you are unhappy with your classification, the ASA of PA says you have the right to appeal. So, please don't come on here and bust my shoes, as i was no tthe sole person who did all this, we went through a commissioners counsal, Slow Pitch Committees, Classification Committees and I am just putting the information here for you as a curtesy to you guys. best to all of you this year - Steve D.
