The Daily Times Sports Department will receive the 2008 Sports Writer/Media Award from the ASA of PA for the second consecutive year at the 34th annual Hall of Fame Awards Banquet on Saturday, March 1st.
This years award winner was announced by ASA of PA State Commissioner Andy Loechner while myself and District 14 Commissioner Sully Gelet were having lunch with him yesterday, at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord in Lancaster County.
The Daily Times Sports Department has once again excelled with its coverage of amateur softball in Delaware County, to win the award for the first time ever, in back-to-back years.
Loechner also commended District 6 for doing an outstanding job with softball in the ASA of PA.
He noted how the District's new adult registrations were number one in the state for the second straight year.
The numbers he spoke of, were an increase of 143 adult teams, marking a 24% upswing with those registrations, in just two years.
The Hall of Fame Awards Banquet will be even more special this year because one of our own from District 6, Theresa Dunbar, will be inducted into the ASA of PA Hall of Fame.
