Daily Times, Delco Sport: Vernon statue anniversary being marked
Saturday will mark the fifth anniversary of the unveiling of the Mickey Vernon statue on Market Street in Marcus Hook.
Free souvenir post cards will be given to the first 100 people who visit the statue between 10:00 a.m. and noon that day. Vernon, the Marcus Hook native who won a pair of American League batting championships and is on the Veterans Committee Hall of Fame ballot this year, will be in attendance from 10:30-11:30.
Available for purchase will be copies of the Mickey Vernon Day program booklet, Mickey's video on baseball immortals and the biography of Vernon, "The Gentleman First Baseman," written by former Daily Times reporter Rich Westcott.
