Their name says a lot, but when it's a beacon of things to come – and the team still wins by 10 runs, that's saying something.
True to its moniker, No Homers didn't hit any big flies, but there were enough of the other hit varieties to lead them to an 18-8 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader against Nicky Bigs in a Millennium "Bats Plus" Division clash.
Leadoff hitter Matt Petrilla set the table by going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
New addition to the No Homers lineup Mike Braun matched Petrilla's output identically.
"We know we're 'only' the rec division and all, but we're all still out here to play hard and compete," said pitcher Mark DeBourke, who earned the win on the mound in the opener. "It was really nice to [get a win against] a very good Nicky Bigs team."
Adding to the No Homers offensive assault were the McConney brothers – Chris and Tom – who combined to go 5-for-8 with three doubles, two triples and 5 RBIs.
"There's a good shot we'll see this team again this season,' said No Homers coach Andy Knapp.
"It's nice to get an early glimpse at what we're up against. We've come up against this squad every season, and it's also a good set. We've got two competitive teams that can still come out and have a good time playing some ball. Overall, it was a good Sunday."
Nicky Bigs rebounded in Game 2 to steal a tight contest 11-10.
Again, homers were unnecessary as Nicky Bigs was paced by Chris Owens (3-for-4, two RBIs), Chris Hoffmann (2-for-2, two runs and an RBI) and Jim Stickney who laced a two-run triple.
