Congratulations to Jim Eckels who won the 2008 Charity Challenge Home Run Derby after the Phillies Ryan Howard slammed 11 HRs for him in the month of September.
Eckels, who played for, and had an outstanding tournament for Charity Challenge champions Prospect Park Methodist/Burk's Bend, almost came away with the exacta after the second player (N.Y. Mets Carlos Delgado) he selected from sealed envelopes of the top 25 Major League Baseball home run leaders as of 8-22-08, came in third place with 8 home runs in the month.
By winning the home run derby, Eckels received a pair of Phillies playoff tickets and a seat from Veterans Stadium, courtesy of BC Sports.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the derby by making a $20 donation and helping the Daily Local/Sunoco Charity Challenge Championship raise an additional $500 for the American Cancer Society.
