The Final was a game between my goofballs and a bunch of guys I have known and respected for a long time and they played hard all day and we got beat by a better team. And in my mind, it was fitting as the tournament was for a special little girl who is close to their hearts and I heard they raised a good amount of money for her which is fantastic.
I had a wonderful day there and so did the guys I brought. Billy-Mark Kirby/Joe Organek; we were all treated with such respect all day by the Upland players and people and it didn't go unnoticed by us and I want to thank you all for that.
It was good to see Mark and Billy Kirby again as Mark ran ragged making sure all the games were played on time and Billy umpired all day in that heat, God bless them both. I know the little girl's mom appreciated their kindness. And Danny Crowley, Ronnie Duranto, Frankie Smith and Sonny Chandler, you guys are still top-notch players and even more so, friends in my book. To the other guys I didn't know that well, it was a pleasure to play such a peaceful championship game. (Did Dennis Martinelli ever stop talking ... he was non-stop all day,LOL, but also tried to help as best he could with making sure every team knew where they were supposed to play ... and he was actually correct most of the time also).
I have to say one thing about Upland and it's people, they always look out and help each other in a time of need and it showed that day by the smile on the Mom's face. The Upland team all signed a ball to give to little Aryn and for anybody that has kids, you can only imagine the range of emotions that went through everybody. I was deeply touched by the kindness of that Upland AC team and th epeopel associated with them. You look at Chandler and Duranto and you see big guys, but the size of their hearts were bigger that day.
I hope and pray that little girl makes it through her treatments and gets better, because she now has about 15+ "uncles" that will always look out for her. Respectfully, Steve Dimitry (and I know I speak for all of the Dr Foley knuckleheads).
