2009 Furey Road Coed Softball Playoff Format and Tiebreaker Procedures.
Playoff Format:
The top four (4) teams based on record will enter the playoffs. I had wanted to enter more, however the budget allowed for only four teams, not six or seven. The highest seeded teams will play the lowest seeded and the then the middle seeded teams will play each other.
All playoff series will be played as a Best-of-3 series. The first two games of each series will be played as a double-header on Monday (or Wednesday, if Monday is not weather permitting). If a third game is needed, then those games will be played on Wednesday (or Friday, if Wednesday is not weather permitting). The Final Round will begin the following Monday and follow the same sequence as the First Round.
If there is a tie for the last remaining playoff spot, the below tiebreakers do not apply and we will have a one-game playoff to determine that seed (both teams will be responsible for paying half of umpire fees--$18). If there is a three way tie for fourth place, we will open up the tournament to a 6 team playoff format, with the first two seeds receiving byes in the first round.
The team with the best regular season record will be the home team and have choice of field selection.
Note: In all Best-of-3 playoff series the highest seeded team must be the home team in Game 1 and Game 3 (if necessary).
Tie Breaker Formats Include:
a. Their overall won-loss record
b. Their won-loss record vs. each other
c. Team with the highest run differential in games played vs. each other
d. Coin Toss
