Daily Times, In The Community: Women's ASA Charity Classic & Turkey Shoot-Out at the forefront this month at the Vernon Museum
By HARRY CHAYKUN, Special to the Times
Delaware County's softball community continues to shine in the way it finds worthy causes to support and then delivers.
The Women's ASA Charity Classic softball tournament, which was held in August, raised $8,000, which it donated to the American Cancer Society. The championship award and a picture of the Appco's/Duke's title team is on display at the Mickey Vernon Sports History Museum, which is located on the second floor of the Granite Run Mall.
The Amateur Softball Association of Pennsylvania's District Six had a lot to do with the success of that tournament, and hopes to make a sizable contribution to the Vernon Museum with a tournament it is sponsoring later this month.
The second Turkey Shoot-Out, which is open to men's and coed teams, will take place Saturday, Nov. 15, at Camp Upland. The men's tournament will have A and B flights and is open to the first 12 teams which register. The coed tournament will consist of four teams, and all teams that take part in the event will play at least three games.
The entry fee is $175, and all proceeds will go the Vernon Museum, which is donating a $175 gift package to the tournament's most valuable players.
