We can only dream of The Mamas & The Papas having recorded John's own song & production - SAN FRANCISCO. I have Scott McKenzie's album -THE VOICE OF - and did re-listen to his verions of TWELVE-THIRTY and ROOMS, and both are far different, and inferior to The Mamas & The Papas versions. Their versions have all the added vocal layers, production, harmonies and atmosphere that make them phenomenal recordings to this day. The versions found on Scott's album are solemn and spare . And they were produced John Phillips and Lou Adler, like SAN FRANCISCO was. So dream of what extras a Mamas and Papas recording of SAN FRANCISCO would have been like. It's also interesting that Denny never sang the song in the 80's Mamas and Papas. John sang it in concert , and there is a live version on the " Many Mamas, Many Papas " 80's CD. Then, when Scott started touring & then became a member of the 80's group , he of course sang it in concert. But Denny being the guy that he was didn't even sing it in the 80's group out of respect for Scott .
