Hi
Need some advice from those of you with experience of Lisinopril.
I've been reading the leaky valve thread which has been pretty helpful for some of my questions, but I have some more specifics.I'll be asking questions when we go in to get him started on it, but always useful to hear first hand from parents with experience!
My little boy is about to start Lisinopril to help his leaky Mitral Valve performance. He had surgery for hole and partial valve repair three years ago and is now six. His energy levels aren't quite what they should be and we were advised to start him on this so he isn't held back.
They range from serious to apparently trivial but I find I can't cope with all this medical stuff unless I know all the facts!
Questions!
1. Any side effects noticed? I think I read it was an ACE inhibitor type drug (ACE inhibitors given to Ashma patients too) and these can sometimes give you a recurring cough?
2. Taste. Are your children comfortable with taking it? We usually have a battle with any medicines with my son apart from Calpol which must be the sweetest sugery medicine invented. Any advice?
3. Any noticable inprovement in energy or is it gradual? I would have liked to resist him starting it right now and perhaps waited a year or two, but it looks like needs must.
4. I am presuming this is a life-long daily medicine habit now? Is that so?
5. We are due to take a weeks holiday later this year. If you arrange travel insurance and mention this drug does it add any complications on policies? Have any insurers you use rejected cover because of this drug?
6. Any other experience to share.
Thats it! Thanks.....
Linda
