Hi
My son, who is 6, began Lisinopril last Wednesday. We came out of hospital on Friday eve. On first day, they gave him very small dose (1mg), then next day medium dose (4 mg), then normal daily dose the next day (8mg). After each dose his blood pressure was monitored hourly for 6 hours then 4 hourly. The worst part was that on going in to hospital, he had to have a canula put in his hand. This is in case of a reaction (unusual) to the med, they can get other med in quickly. He also had to have blood taken every day to check his kidneys were functioning ok on it. They were. It is all to make sure the med is right for your child. D found the bloods/canula v upsetting but taking the liquid is fine. It came in one of those squirty syringe things. He loves the taste and he is usually a bit fussy about med. I've just asked him how it tastes and he says 'sweet'. I read about side effects but have seen none yet. I read it takes a few weeks to have effect. I believe he will take it until his aortic valve repair but we are hoping that taking this will help put that off. Don't know about insurance sorry. When we were told he had to start taking this, we were gutted. Since his treatment as a baby, he's been med free and symptom free. I know that we are lucky for that. However, now we've been in and come out again with him on it, we are getting over it and getting back to normal. He takes his med in the morning (I draw it up and he squirts it in to his mouth!)and then we get on with normal day. It's ok. You probably know this already but take plenty to do, as my son got sooo bored. Hope this helps. Laura
