He was probably glad to be away from his fussy old Mum too!!! Hehe. I chuckle, because I'm an acupuncturist and qualified masseuse, but my husband gets very little sympathy from me when he's ill!!! We're all doing OK, playing the 'waiting game' not very patiently (me), and getting frustrated that after 3 weeks of chasing, we now have an appointment with the bowel surgeon that's not until June 8th. It feels like an age away when every day I see him in pain and also watch him wriggling away his precious calories that should be being stored up ready for his op. Anyway, today I spoke with one of the outreach nurses and explained that we're getting closer to the OHS zone and that Leo's bowels need attention now. I've sent an email to Owen Miller, via her, with a copy of the referral letter, and asked whether he can at least have a conversation with the bowel surgeon, seeing as how she already has all the test results, biopsy, barium scan and Xray pictures. We're due to see him for cardio assessment next Thursday and he said we'd start discussing dates (we are due from end May onwards as Leo'll be 6 months - but way off 6 kilos!) So if he does, he may be able to share a provisional plan with us in terms of what the priority might be. My worry is that as well as not gaining/thriving in the meantime, it'd be horrible for Leo post cardiac surgery to be trying to cope with the bowel blockage - he strains so hard that he herniates his pericardial drain scar and belly button as it is. Can't imagine how much that would hurt or what it would do to any internal patching and stitching that they'll be doing... I thought long and hard, and decided that it is appropriate to try to put my foot down a bit, because in the meantime, the breastmilk sits and rots in his bowels and by the time it comes out it's putrid green water/slime. I just don't want another 6 weeks of that impact on his bowels, and it's clear to me looking back at all the early chest scans (for Bronchiolitis) that he's had colitis since the end of December.
So we'll see what happens now.....
Phew! Sorry, Margaret, that turned into a bit of a rant!! Thanks for the ear!
Back to your original query - will you do a posting to let us know what is the upshot of the travel insurance query? I'm still harbouring secret thoughts of a sunnier life....!
Take care, Pippa x
