Hi Kerry,
Depends on condition and situation of course.
But if permitting, you could stick to Europe in countries where you can be assured medical services are excellent and European medical ECIH (is that what they are now called??) cards accepted. France, Germany, Scandanavia, Holland or major cities etc. Maybe other parents would say I am not being fair here, but I think I would avoid Greece, Cyprus, Balearics, Canaries etc.
Always carry copy of all medical details - numbers of the Evelina, consultant etc just in case.
Personally (just to make me relax a bit more) I always figure out where a local big hospital is, the road there and a number of a local potential English speaking Medical practice with some pre-research. This reassures me more than anything else and years of travelling with 'the elderlies'!.
Regarding insurance, you'll pay a special premium but always worth going for bespoke policy and reassurance. Some companies better than others. Always found Lloyds insurance helpful. I wouldn't rely on any blanket travel insurance policy offered by banks, I tried going through 'exceptionals' with a policy I got for a new HSBC account and I didn't feel reassured at all that they would really cover us in a real crisis.
Finally someone else here gave me advice under Lisprinol thread about thinking about medicines and airlines and I thought that was really useful and hadn't thought about it. Basically that you might want to keep everything on your person rather than the luggage in case they lose it!!! but that you have to think of keeping things in see through containers, with details to explain and abide by security rules.
Good luck, a bit of a break and some sunshine does everyone wonders if you are lucky enough to get it.
Just heard the weekend will be hot. Lovely !
Linda
