Dear Catriona and Amy
Well, good on you for your tenacity - as you say, it's so important to trust your instincts. I have heard of Rett Syndrome, but will now look it up and learn more about it. I guess it now puts you into a new situation - a bit like on a river, with one foot in one canoe, and the other foot balancing in another - and off you wobble down the river! At least, that's how it feels at times with our Leo, in terms of his cardiac and Tri 21 canoes! It was different for us, in that we had both canoes on the go from his birth, whereas, I imagine, you are 'pros' in one canoe, but 'novices' in the Retts canoe. So here you go again, with lots of research and information seeking etc. But at the end of the day, Amy is still the same gorgeous Amy, isn't she? I'm glad that you have found somebody expert that has been able to give you the confirmation that you were seeking. On the one hand, it puts the mind and heart at rest, doesn't it? But it also stirs up new thoughts.... I'm sure that Amy will show you the way, and as far as communication goes, she and you will find your own solutions to communicate, because love always finds a way.... I hope the dust settles soon - no doubt it will settle more quickly for you, because you've always 'known' that there was more to discover about your daughter, but perhaps it might take a little longer for family/friends to adjust... just remember to preserve your own energy and not let others drain you too much! x
