Hello Lovelies
thanks so much for your messages! We got back very late last night, so have been slowly getting sorted again today. it's the worst part of going into hospital - all the unpacking afterwards!! leo had his bowel endoscopy last Tuesday with Miss Agrawal (she's lovely!) and as suspected, she did perform an ileostomy while he was under the anaesthetic. She could see the whole colon was very enlarged, but no sign of an 'organic blockage' (food/poo plug!) so this suggests that it's something along the lines of Hirschprung's, which can occur within the Tri-21 bag of tricks. We were up on Mountain and the doctors and staff were all lovely with Leo. This time I braved it, and stayed at RMcD, rather than cotside, mainly because I couldn't breastfeed Leo from Monday until Thursday lunchtime, and he was so pissed off with me. Poor little mite looked very confused and kept sticking his bottom lip out. He was starved from 8pm the night before, then nil by mouth for a further 48 hours after the Tues morning op. He had a bad reaction to the morphine and went very grey, SATS down to early 60's so had to have 4 doses of the reversal drug. He also developed a rash on his body and face, which they suspect might be drug reaction, but nobody seemed very sure. So we're having some allergy testing done before he has any further operations. When I was finally allowed to feed him, I had to syringe feed him - you've never seen the plunger get sucked down so quickly. He had to start off on 5ml an hour - he was so unimpressed! Anyway, after his first direct BF, he finally smiled at me, and then started cooing again! He seems to be fine with the stoma, and has been rolling around onto his tummy (his new trick!). I had to do a bag change before I left so that they knew I was ok with it all. Staying in RMcD was a bit hard, but it's such an amazing facility, we are incredibly lucky to have it. Andrew stayed there with our 2 girls, and they had a brilliant time (so adaptable!) We were discharged yesterday late afternoon, went back to the house to pack up, and experienced our first 'bag leak' - grrr. As they say....'shit happens'! But Leo already looks so much more comfortable, and the rugby ball that he appeared to have swallowed has gone down. We are now waiting on biopsy results at the end of the week, and hoping that it will be something that is surgically treatable, rather than a verdict of an immature gut, but will just deal with whatever happens - because that what us ECHO'ers do, isn't it?! I'll update at the end of the week when we know more. PS Gutted to have missed the ECHO day - it sounds like it went brilliantly - well done for all your hard work, Jess, Jo, Nick et al! x
