Hi,
We just got back from Savanna on Sunday. I am sure I asked the same questions several times, my head was such a muddle! Nobody seamed to mind, they were open and honest and certainly didn't make you feel that you were being silly or wasting their time. The nurses can answer lots of your questions. Mr. Austin didn't see Nathan until the morning of his op because of an emergency coming in, he still spent plenty of time with us and spoke in language that we understood! There was always plenty of Doctors and nurses around the ward to answer any worries. I would totally agree that you should visit PICU before hand, I am so glad that the machines were explained to us, made the whole thing slightly less scarey! Nathan was in slightly longer that expected too, and took a while to settle him into the PICU so don't think that it means something is wrong! If you can take the time and try and eat something and get a little rest, difficult I know but you will probably find sleep difficult once out of the surgery.
Our prayers and best wishes are with your family.
