Thats lovely to hear, kids are amazing! Its really useful to get this info and insight.
I think you are right, best to level with them as much as possible and prepare well. A visit to Picu in advance was a good idea. My daughter said "its like ER - cool".....mmmm well not really that helpful to us.... but she was just a teenager when it happened to her brother & the nurses encouraged us to involve her too.
Before the first op for my son i was very tearful about the scar and procedure. My son now flashes his scar at every opportunity!
(incidentally he had his op 4 years ago August and last week a black thread emerged from the scar site and came out clean!) eek! Dr simpson has warned me that a black pimple we could see could be this. Bizarre!
Hope all the days past day 8 get stronger and better and keep in touch.
