Hi Susie
My son (Alisdair) did not have the exactly same condition but he had cardiomyopathy induced by his heart beating too fast (tachycardia). He suddenly got ill at about 5 weeks old and we were in PICU for a week and Savannah for a week. We were then sent home with lots of drugs and I remember feeling like you are describing. I had to keep checking that he was ok all the time and I think that is quite normal! It does get easier and as time goes on, I got less neurotic as I got more confidence about it all. I understand what it is like to suddenly be faced with a situation like yours. I found that my world was thrown into complete confusion and I found it all a big shock. It does help to talk to others who can understand what you are going through as sometimes we can feel it is beyond the understanding of our normal friends. I have found this forum very helpful. It has kept me going at times when things were hard. Try and cope the best way you know how and look after yourself too. You will find that you adjust to this situation but it does take time. Just take things one day at a time.
Thinking of you
