Hi Nic,
I just bought a couple of blankets and scratch mitts. A friend knitted him his first pair of socks (very cute) and I took them but I couldn't face buying stuff for the house! It did mean we had a shopping frenzy once we were coming home. We had also met him by then so it felt very personal to him and even more exciting. You have to do whats right though. Its a difficult one because we found that people thought it was strange to not have anything ready! I just felt that, at the end of the day, we had to do everything at our own speed and I wasn't ready for baby things around me until I had him safely with us.
