Ric Converse has successfully defended his AWA World Heavyweight Championship against two of the AWA's Top 10 Challengers, AWA World-1 Champion Ricky Landell and just last weekend in New Orleans against Aaron "Jesus" Aguillera. But Converse's first title defense in his home arena located in Burlington, NC could very well prove to be his biggest test to date. Commissioner William L. Cross sanctioned a special 14-man Toreno Cibernetico to determine who would receive the championship bout against Converse on August 19th. Otto Schwanz surprised the fans when he dumped reigning AWA Mid-Atlantic Hwt. Champion Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride over the top rope for the final elimination to earn the coveted spot in this week's main event. Schwanz is a former CWF heavyweight champion but this will be his first ever World Title match. Schwanz is a former ECW and WWE full-time contracted wrestler that was overlooked for those organiztions top title, much like most competitors in those groups. However the American Wrestling Association is the land of opportunity for wrestlers, and Schwanz shaped his own future by winning the cibernetico almost two weeks ago. While Schwanz certainly has the size, skill, and credentials to take on the AWA World Champion, it's his recent shocking revelation that has sent shockwaves throughout the Carolina Sports Arena about this Saturday night's title bout. The massive Schwanz revealed that he was originally trained by Steve Corino and furthered his training while with the WWE by none other than Tracy Smothers... both grapplers that hate Ric Converse and have publically announced that they will do everything in their power to dethrone the AWA World Champion. Corino and Smothers have both unsuccessfully fought Converse this year, but were more than willing to share their knowledge with Schwanz they picked up from those confrontations. Otto Schwanz went on to announce that he recently met with both Corino and Smothers, at their request, to provide him with the tools to capture the World Title this Saturday. "It's a done deal," Schwanz commented on his chances of winning the championship. What exactly is it that Corino and Smothers have provided to Otto Schwanz? Will it be the key to defeat Ric Converse this Saturday night?? Reserve your seats now to insure you get to witness this historic conflict as Saturday night will likely be another sold out event! Also on tap are the final two quarterfinal bouts in the 3rd Annual Johnny Weaver Cup Tournament. Both matches are sure to be some of the best action seen so far in the summer long contest. Last year's winner, Jesse Ortega, will square off against "Mr. Elite" Jake Manning. These two have met several time in the western part of the state in matches that fans have raved about for their physicality and intensity. This time the winner will attain the status of making it to the final four of the Weaver Cup. The other quarterfinal match will pit the popular Dynasty member, Xsiris, against the hated New Dynasty's Joey Silvia. Both of these competitors have been racking up crucial victories over the last few months leading up to this important conflict. The winners of this Saturday's tourny matches will go on to face each other in the semi-finals next Saturday night and join the other final four contestants, "A Very Handsome Man" Mitch Connor and the Gemini Kid. A very special added attraction for this Saturday will see the ladies in action. The CWF's own GeeStar and Amber O'Neal will be joined by former NWA Women's World Champion Lexie Fyfe, Allison Danger, and the lovely Lorelei Lee. With five firey women wrestlers in the building, there is just no telling what could be in store for the fans at the Carolina Sports Arena! All this and so much more featuring all your favorites including: AWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride, AWA Mid-Atlantic Television Champion Brass Munkey, AWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions Garry "Madd Trucker" Stevens & "A Very Handsome Man" Mitch Connor, Tank Lawson, "Simply" Steve Greene, Trent Wylde, Marcellus King, and many more!
