The "Summer Action Series" concludes this Saturday night with the finals of the 2006 Johnny Weaver Cup Tournament. Four men remain out of a field of 20 that began in May. Four very different competitors, all seeking the recognition and prestige that comes with winning the tournament and the presentation of the trophy cup by the legendary Johnny Weaver. Joey Silvia - ruthless, heartless, but extremely talented. Since stabbing his friend Ric Converse in the back, Silvia has been on one of the hottest streaks in the Mid-Atlantic territory, turning out some of the best matches of his career. His overwhelming jealously and hatred of Converse and the fans has seen him rise to the top of the challengers in his quest to steal the glory for himself. Silvia has always been talented but has channeled his hatred to make it to the Final Four, defeating AWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride en route. With his riot squad members "Simply" Steve Greene and Trent Wylde as backup, Silvia could very well be the favorite if he wins his semi-final bout against Jesse Ortega. Jesse Ortega - intensity defined. Ortega is no stranger to Weaver Cup competition. He has now made it to the Final Four in every tournament held, and was last year's winner. Ortega has made it clear that he intends to continue to write new records in the Stat Book by winning back-to-back Weaver Cup Tournaments. Known as "El Fuego" for the fire he brings to the ring, he can be nearly unstoppable with the support of the fans to stoke his burning intensity. Ortega and Silvia have had quite a few confrontations in tag team action along with several brawls outside the ring. He's definitely looking forward to meeting Siliva in the ring to settle their score and make it one step closer to becoming the first ever repeat Weaver Cup winner. One things for certain, once his opponent is trapped in his fearsome Fujiwara armbar, it's time to tap. Mitch Connor - the impact player. Connor is a Milwaukee import with an ego bigger than a truckload of cheese. Calling himself "A Very Handsome Man," you could be fooled into thinking he might be soft in the ring. Instead this former AWA Mid-Atlantic Television Champion and recently dethroned AWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champion, has earned the reputation of knocking out many of his opponents over the past two years with a deadly implant DDT. Connor knows no bounds when it comes to winning, even KOing his own tag team partner during the Weaver Cup Tournament to make it to the Final Four. This is Connor's second straight appearance in the Final Four and he's quipped he plans on stepping right over the Gemini Kid to go to the finals where he hopes to meet Ortega in a rematch of their semi-final bout from last year. Gemini Kid - the technical wizard. Long gone are his speed and high risk manuevers, replaced with the smoothness of a fine wine in his application of holds to wear down his opponents. A virtual encyclopedia of submission locks and pinfall combinations, Gemini has proven that he can indeed snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in an instant. Gemini Kid steps into the Final Four celebrating his 20th year in professional wrestling with hopes of riding his tournament winning streak all the way to the main event finals. This is the first appearance in the Weaver Cup for the former 2-time AWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champion. The winners of the semi-final bouts will face each other in the finals for the main event. The eventual winner will be presented the Weaver Cup Trophy by Johnny Weaver and hold that honor until next year's finals. The winner also receives a championship match for the AWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title, currently held by Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride. Also in store for fans is a special No Disqualification challenge tag team match as Mid-Atlantic Legends "Pride of the USA" Don Kernodle and his brother Rocky Kernodle will team up to face members of Sheik Lumpkin's Arab Army. Lumpkin is no stranger to the Kernodles, having tasted the "Weaverlock Sleeper" from none other than Johnny Weaver nearly a year ago as his team went down in defeat to Don & Rocky. This week however Sheik Lumpkin says things will be different and that a win over the Kernodles isn't good enough. "Nothing could make my investors in the United Arab Emirates happier than for me to retire the so-called Pride of the USA right there in his hometown of Burlington. And that's exactly what we're going to do. My team will cripple Don Kernodle and if I see Johnny Weaver I'm going to personally whip him into a wheelchair!" exclaimed Sheik Lumpkin. The action doesn't slow down there as a very special championship match has been signed for this Saturday night as well! AWA President Dale Gagne has selected the newest challenger to receive a title bout against AWA World Light Heavyweight Champion "Krazy K" Kirby Mack. Gagne has issused the contract granting the Kamakazi Kid his first ever World Light Heavyweight Championship bout. Krazy K and Kamakazi have faced each other on numerous occassions long before Mack won the title. However each meeting has resulted in the same result... a loss for the Kamakazi Kid. Since returning to the Mid-Atlantic territory, Kazi has steadily worked his way to the top of the cards, picking up some big victories and garnishing the attention of the AWA President. This Saturday the Kamakazi Kid will have the opportunity of a lifetime, the chance to attain a World Championship. But he'll have to break a personal losing streak to Krazy K to accomplish it. Dreams do come true in the Mid-Atlantic and this Saturday another goal could be reached in this epic contest! All this and so much more featuring all your favorites including: AWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride, AWA Mid-Atlantic Television Champion Brass Munkey, Tank Lawson, "Simply" Steve Greene, Trent Wylde, and many more! Don't you dare miss it!!! Link: www.indyinsiders.com www.IndyInsiders.Com
