With the prized championship in WCEW vacant, WCEW board members have worked vigorously to reach a decision on the future of the championship that is both fair to the fans who support WCEW and to the wrestlers who give of their time, heart and bodies to compete in WCEW. Several hours worth of phone calls, conference calls and face-to-face meetings eventually led WCEW officials to the decision that on February 24th at Harvest Ministries in Wadesboro, NC a brand new WCEW Heavyweight Champion will be crowned. “Dangerous E” Corey Edsel has been on one of the most impressive rolls in WCEW history over the last several months, racking up victory after victory over the likes of KC McKnight, “Lost Boy” Billy Blade and others. He was in line to finally receive a title shot on January 27th but that title opportunity did not happen due to the relationship between Messina and WCEW breaking down. Edsel even went so far as to challenge Messina to bring his championship and defend it like a man on February 24th but that challenge went unanswered and Messina instead chose to vacate the title. WCEW officials have decided not to penalize Edsel for Messina’s discretions and have awarded him one of the two spots in the championship decision match scheduled for February 24th at Harvest Ministries. Edsel will face the winner of a contenders match earlier in the card in the main event on February 24th to crown a new champion and start a new era in WCEW. Two out of the other top 9 contenders will be drawn at random at the start of the February 24th event and compete against each other in a one fall match early on the card. The winner of the match advances to meet “Dangerous E” in the main event with the winner being crowned the NEW WCEW Champion. We feel that this is the fairest scenario both for our wrestlers who work hard and deserve the title opportunity, as well as for the fans, as this will provide them with two championship-quality matches in one night. WCEW wishes good luck to all the competitors who will be involved in these two unique championship decision bouts and again thanks our fantastic fans for their support. We encourage everyone who enjoys WCEW to not miss February 24th at Harvest Ministries in Wadesboro, NC because it will be the dawning of a new era for World Class Extreme Wrestling.
The World Class Extreme Wrestling Heavyweight Championship was officially declared vacant on 31 January 2007 after discussions between WCEW and champion Daniel “Dr. Luv” Messina reached an impasse and both parties chose to severe ties.
