CWF Mid-Atlantic returns to the Carolina Sports Arena in Burlington, NC this Saturday, August 2nd, with a 7:30pm belltime. This is a huge event with a full card of action.
This Saturday will be a special one night tournament to crown the new Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions. Just two weeks ago, the Kamakazi Kid announced he had to withdraw from active competition due to his back injury, leaving his tag team partner with both title belts to defend against the VIP tandem of Jesse Ortega & Gemini Kid.
During this unusual 2-on-1 title defense, Mikael Yamaha leaped to the apron, and helped Xsiris retain the titles with a victory. However Commissioner Cross ruled the win invalid due to Yamaha taking the place of Kazi without the Commissioner's prior approval.
Cross then announced that he was holding up the titles to be able to determine the rightful champions, and in doing so would hold a special one night tournament. That tournament will take place this Saturday night and the teams have been announced.
Entering the tournament are the VIPs (Jesse Ortega, Steve Greene & Gemini Kid). This faction are proven champions as Greene is a former Mid-Atlantic Tag Champion, and Ortega & Gemini have held both the Mid-Atlantic Tag Titles and World Tag Team Titles together as a team. However the VIPs have not indicated which duo will compete and have refused to do so until belltime.
The second team entered is Xsiris & Mikael Yamaha. Xsiris has just captured the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Titles with the Kamakazi Kid only to have them stripped two weeks ago. Xsiris is also a former World Tag Team Champion. Yamaha is a 2-Time Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champion, holding it with then partner and now rival again, the Gemini Kid.
The third team entered is the McAllister Army. General McAllister has had his army on a roll, in particular with Marcellus King. The General has also refused to announce his team to compete, but you have to figure his top recruit will be a part of it.
The final team is that of the newly formed combo of Brass Munkey and Roy Wilkins. This team has scored several victories together and have created enough momentum to earn a spot in this special one night tournament. Definitely the dark horse, but could be the surprise team of the night.
In addition to the tag team tournament, another big tournament match will take place as the Quaterfinals of the 2008 Johnny Weaver Cup will determine another competitor to make it to finals night. Ric Converse takes on Lee Valiant in what could be the potential match of the night. Converse is looking to move in the Finals and win the Weaver Cup, and with it a guaranteed title bout for the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Crown. Valiant is hoping to represent his Destiny stable and earn his first ever Weaver Cup Finals appearance.
One more big title contest is set to take place as Fatback Enterprises' Matthew de Nero will challenge Tank Lawson for the Mid-Atlantic Television Title. Manager Brad Stutts has lobbied for his top singles competitor to receive this championship match and bring the TV Title back to his corporations headquarters. Lawson will have the size advantage in this one, but with Stutts at ringside, size may not be enough to turn back the threat of Fatback Enterprises.
All this and so much more including the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride, Fatback Enterprises Corey Edsel, Donnie Dollar$ and RGL Champion Nick Richards, Evan Banks with manager Bobby O'Neal, and more in action this Saturday night in Burlingon, NC at the Carolina Sports Arena!
Don't you dare miss it!!!
