CWF Mid Atlantic 2009 Johnny Weaver Tournament FINALS TONIGHT!
*** WEAVER CUP SEMI-FINALS & FINALS!
*** WOMEN IN ACTION!
*** FATBACK TEAMS TOGETHER FOR THE FINAL TIME?!
*** LEE VALIANT'S SURPRISE!
CWF Mid-Atlantic returns to the Mid Atlantic Sportatorium in Burlington, NC this Saturday, August 15th, with a 7:30pm belltime.
CWF Mid-Atlantic's new home at the Mid Atlantic Sportatorium is located at 1813 Frank Holt Drive, Burlington, NC 27217 just about 2 miles away from our familiar former home the Carolina Sports Arena. We encourage all of the CWF SuperFans to join us at this brand new facility that will be our permanent home.
CWF Mid-Atlantic's super summer schedule rolls on this weekend with 2 huge nights of action that will see the culmination of the 2009 Johnny Weaver Memorial Cup Tournament! The tournament's Final Four has been set with four of the top grapplers in the Mid-Atlantic vying for the coveted Weaver Cup trophy this Saturday night!
BRASS MUNKEY: the current Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion became the first man to qualify for this year's final four with a huge win over Otto Schwanz, handing the German madman his first pinfall loss in a CWF ring in over 2 and a half years! Munkey will look to become the first repeat winner in Weaver Cup history, having captured the 2008 tournament win which was a huge win that catapaulted him all the way to the Heavyweight crown.
RIC CONVERSE: undeniably the most successful CWF wrestler to have never won the Weaver Cup. This former 2005 Rumble winner; 5 time Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion and former AWA World Champion has had his share of huge wins but the Weaver Cup has always alluded him despite appearances in the final four in 2004 and 2008. Will the third time be the charm for "The First" man to join the Aftermath? And could the guaranteed title shot that comes with winning send Ric right back towards the championship he made famous?
JESSE ORTEGA: no one has appeared in more Weaver Cup final fours than Ortega -every single year since 2004 this tournament master has made it, including a win in 2005. No one has ever won the tournament twice and Ortega's focus and dedication in making it to the final four every year has made him a favorite to achieve that goal but the field this year is arguably the toughest its ever been!
KAMAKAZI KID: the dark horse of the tournament to be sure. 3 months ago none of us dreamed Kazi would even return to the ring much less made it to the semi-finals of the Weaver Cup. But here he is, encouraged by huge victories over Ric Converse in his return match and Marcellus King, then 2007 Weaver Cup winner Mitch Connor in tournament matches. Now Kazi is on the verge of making his miraculous comeback complete and rising to the occasion on this monumental night in CWF history!
Saturday night will see the semi-finals open the card and the two winning wrestlers return in the Saturday night main event to compete in the tournament finals and crown a new 2009 Weaver Cup Champion!
But that's not all, huge developments in preparations for September 5th's "Fatback Rising II" have necessitated two major matches being signed for Saturday!
In the event that Fatback loses on September 5th and are forced to split as a team, CWF Mid-Atlantic will need new number one contender's to the Mid-Atlantic Tag-Team Championships. That number one contendership will be determined in a tag-team gauntlet match this Saturday night. William L. Cross has entered a team representing the Aftermath, Ty Dillinger has entered a Destiny team and many others are jockeying for a spot in this high stakes bout. One surprising request came from Mid-Atlantic Television Champion Lee Valiant, who said he was entering the match solely to get his hands on Destiny. Valiant assures us he is coming for Destiny but he is not coming alone as part of the high stakes tag-team gauntlet match on Saturday night!
Also Saturday night will see the members of Fatback: "Dangerous E" Corey Edsel; Donnie Dollar$ and "Jersey" Nick Richards compete in six-man tag-team competition for what may be the very last time! Fatback will break up forever if they fail to win the Mid-Atlantic Tag-Team Championship on September 5th, so this could be your last chance ever to see all of Fatback together in one right at one time on one team!
Also in action on Saturday night, a huge women's tag-team bout featuring our own Amber O'Neal, Ring of Honor's Becky Bayless, the returns of Persephone and Kristin Flake and the CWF debut of Fantastia! Plus Joey Silvia & Steve Greene of Destiny; Marcellus "Mid-Atlantic" King; Alex Adonis w/ Crystal Clear; "Handsome" Mitch Connor; Tank Lawson; the return to action of the Sindicate: Evan Banks & Michael McAllister; Rising Generation League Champion Matt Smith and more!!
Don't you dare miss it!!!
