When you did the refurb did you loosen the truss rod and check that your neck is still true and not warped? Did you touch up the fretboard surface with a sanding block/beam? Press your G string (the one on the bass) down simultaneously around where the 1st and 19th frets would be... is there a very slight gap between fretboard and string along the entire length... no fretboard high spots? Now do the same for the E string and see if it's the same. There should be a very slight but perceptable gap on both strings if your truss rod is set correctly and your neck is true.
