Unfortunately, when plugging into an amplifier, you are losing most of the acoustic sound. Some pickups are better than others. I am not a big fan of piezo pickups but they are the industry standard. Also the preamp is a big part of the "electrified" sound. i found by changing the pickup and preamp in my acoustic-electric bass (Washburn AB40 fretless), I could get a better sound. Acoustic-electrics have a unique sound but they will never sound like an acoustic instrument.
