Posted by The Bass Sherpa It will require quite a bit of humility for awhile. Eventually the intonation improves. My current jazz band prefers I play fretted, because of the subtle tone shift. But they love the fat, rich thump I squeeze out of my flats. The only 'cons' are that it will require patience and perseverence to really get to the easy playing. Also, try to get one without fret lines. They are most helpful in the beginning, but you will outgrow them as your ear improves. Good Luck! TBS ps --Previous Message--

It sounds like love to me, early stages, anyway.
I will totally encourage you to get 'the touch' early on in your bass career. Fretted is incredibly easy to play, fretless - incredibly difficult, but gratifying.
It's great that you have drumming history. Bass is all about the beat...
: I am a drummer (15 years)making the jump to
: bass. I've been practicing every day for 6
: months on a washburn bantum bass a friend
: loaned to me. I've progressed fairly well
: during this time and am ready to buy my own
: bass. I was all ready to invest in a very
: nice used 5 string warwick that I played for
: hours and fell in love with at the
: store...that was until I picked up this 4
: string fretless (warwick).. I never
: considered one but my gawd, it felt great,
: no fret buzz, harmonics anywhere I chose, so
: I think I even sounded smoother overall.. I
: just imagined where the frets were and
: played it that way.. Question: Should a
: novice consider a fretless? what are the
: pros and cons..?
