the stew-mac defretting pliers are a must, clamps to bend the neck slightly so as to prohibit chipping. Iron to heat the frets. lots of sand paper. an old bust up neck to practice on. thin binding and super glue or wood filler to fill the the fret slots. I read the article in bass player a while ago and did it myself to my peavey grind 6-string and it was pretty damn good if i do say so myself.
